#IWSG -Dang bicycle!

Today I thought I'd just pop open my brain and show all the madness inside. See, I just published my tenth book, and the final one in my six book fantasy series.  As many of you know, there is a lot of wild stuff involved with getting a book out--plus I've had three signing events this year, which also zaps those of us not of  outgoing and extroverted nature.

And now things are settling down, my breath has been caught, and.....what? It's not that I don't have projects. The second book in my steampunk series just started, a first book in a new series (that was begun a long time ago) needs finishing, and another book one in another series needs editing.

I find myself having problems getting back into gear. I did some soul searching and realized that doing events is hard for me, so probably less of those. I love to write, so more of that. YAY! And still not getting more than a few hundred words in a day.

SIGH.

Part of me is freaking out that I'm not back on track, that I feel like I'm peddling a one-pedal bike. Another part is pretty sure this has happened with each book--but I've just purged it.

So, here I sit, trying to push/pull/tug my brain back into doing what it loves. How are you all doing?

  2. Ten books - that's awesome! I'm gearing up for book #3 and I'm still surprised at how much is involved in the publication process.

You've got some great covers. I especially like the one for A Curious Invasion.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, it doesn't get easier ;). Thank you about the covers, I love my artists! A Curious Invasion was done by Deranged Doctor Designs. The rest are all Aleta Rafton.

  3. Writing is opening our brain and showing people the madness inside, isn't it? (Although I prefer the term creativity.)

  4. Congrats on the 10th book! That is huge. I'm not sure I could do events. I don't people well LOL I can in small doses, but the older I get the less I can/want to manage it. Yay for more writing, and even if it's only 100 or so words a day, it's better than zero.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, it is great meeting people who love the crazy worlds you've made up--but it does wipe ya out!

  7. How important do you find those signing events to be? Would it hurt that much to cut back on them? Maybe you should take a trip somewhere where there's no one else around and soak up the silence. Congrats on the 10th book.

    1. I think for authors who enjoy them, they can be awesome. I made some really great connections from Romantic Times Booklovers Convention, but that event ended last year. I am planning on a lot more chilling the rest of this year for sure! Thank you!

  8. Congrats on publishing your tenth book—and for wrapping up a six book series. That's quite the achievement! Signing events are super draining. I can usually only manage one or two a year. I salute you!

    1. Thank you! Yeah, aside from the mass autographing for SFWA this month (aka me sitting back and watching folks swarm the big names ;)) I am done for this year!

  9. I get you. I just finished a book, so I'm in the total relief phase. When I go back to my paused third book, I'm going to have to learn how to be a writer all over again. It's as if amnesia comes with finishing a book. Like it's a twofer. Argh...
