#IWSG--Writing when the world goes sideways

Hello and welcome to another Insecure Writer's Support Group meeting...er, blog hop. Writers from all over the world gather and share our hopes and fears-- join us!

We are living in interesting times, and no one is happy about it. Our world is going sideways and it's scary and strange.

Writers have really good imaginations which can backfire on us when the world gets scary.

But we're also the ones who create escape for ourselves and others through our works. I don't think my books are going to change the world--but if they offer someone an escape from fear? Then that's all I need.

I'm not writing as much as I sometimes am able to, but I am working on books. Editing one, writing another, thinking about a third. Getting new words and new books out in the wild is my escape (along with lots of reading).

I look at each day as a new start (and am lucky enough that my non-writing day job is allowing us to work from home--weird but it gives some balance). I remind myself there is still hope and light. I'm moving forward, slower than before, but still moving forward.

How are you dealing with creative pursuits right now?

Take care of each other- and happy IWSG day.

  1. Glad you're getting some writing done, despite the chaotic time we are living through! I hope you are able to stay safe and healthy through this storm.

  3. Happy IWSG Day, Marie. Glad you're coping. I'm with you, we need to write, and one day we'll write about this C-19 pandemic, and make some sense of it.

  4. I'm good. So is my family and friends because it has barely touched BC. I feel lucky, so lucky, but it will come here. And nothing can stop it.

  5. I'm doing all right all things considered. Glad you are too! I just keep trying to do all the right things to stay safe.

  6. I don't get to "work from home" but when I am home, I'm far to busy with the rest of my life to write. I've got a few good ideas.

Good luck with all you are accomplishing Marie.

  7. I try to carve out time for writing and stick to the plan. Focus can be tough. I'm a worrier, I could outsource worrying for other people. So, turning it off has been a challenge. Stay well!

  8. The shutting down of schools has drastically cut into my online tutoring sessions (Chemistry), so I have more time to write. So it's with mixed feelings that students are beginning to call me for more sessions again.

    Take care.

  9. Something about being locked down worked on my mind and I immediately went into writer's block. What? Nothing but time to write and nothing to write? So, I'm rewriting. Editing. Reading. Redoing my website. Learning to manipulate images with PaintShop. Like all things writer's block and lockdowns shall pass. Maybe like a kidney stone, but they will pass.

  11. I was lucky to already mostly work from home, though I ended up needing to come in to the restaurant to cover for one of our servers for a couple weeks. Today's the last day I have to work with customers, and then in two weeks I can start spending some time with my mom, who's stuck home alone. Looking forward to that! I've felt so bad not visiting her, but I was afraid to expose her if a customer exposed me.

  12. I've had more time to write since the stay-at-home order which is good because writing is my escape from the horror of the situation. I work from home as a matter of course, so no big change for me there. Sounds like you're adapting and making the best of things. Stay well and keep writing.

  13. Although I have more time to write, my mind isn't cooperating. It's swirling around and I can't focus. Short things, like blogs, are okay. Maybe I should try flash fiction. LOL Stay safe.
